Are you already familiar with “off- white” – a new trend in interior design?

Pure white colour is the most common choice in the interior, as it is easy to combine with other shades and furniture. Since it reflects light, it visually enlarges the space and gives it a sense of cleanliness and brightness. Nevertheless, the classic white colour can appear cold and sterile in a space. On sunny days, the light reflected from the walls shines too brightly and is blinding. Off-white or white with an undertone, which is a new trend in interior design and which architects and interior designers are resorting to more and more often, is an excellent solution for this problem, among other things.

White colour shades are versatile, as they can serve as a long-term foundation for the changing styles and colours of our equipment. They also optically enlarge the space, as they reflect natural light and go well both in modern, refined homes and in rustic and countryside environments. The off-white shades adapt to your unique taste in a sophisticated way with their gentle nuances, giving your home a distinctive character.

At JUB, the off-white colour shades were divided into various  groups: warmer (cotton, alabaster, jasmine), cooler (ice, the colour of salt or kefir), neutral (lace, pearl, tofu) and pink (ricotta, powder, basmati). These are gentle shades of white, but they have many advantages over their non-pigmented sister.

The added pigments will react differently with the objects in their immediate surroundings and with the colour of the sunlight. The colour will absorb and reflect different wavelengths and thus change depending on the weather, the time, the season, and also depending on the objects in its surroundings. This will create a more natural, warm, and cozy feeling, and on the other hand, it will also help regulate your biological clock.

One colour shade changes depending on the light, creating a rich monochromatic palette and a greater perception of volume.

Even if the same colour is applied throughout the home, it will still not work two-dimensionally, as it will change its colour according to the inflow of light into the room. Thus, it will look as if we are surrounded by a rich monochromatic palette and not just a single colour.

Cozy minimalism

One of the predominant trends in interior design, which also includes off-white colour shades, is warm, sustainable minimalism with notes of Mediterranean, Scandinavian, and Japanese design. What all three have in common is that they create a place of slow and mindful living with simple interventions in the space; a small shelter that fills us with positive energy.

Japandi is currently one of the predominant interior design styles, as it brings dynamics and coziness to the space with its gentle textures, the play of shadows and reflections, and with a few furniture elements and colours.

Primary materials such as wood, stone, metal, glass, textiles, lime, clay, and ceramics are in focus and their various surface treatments, ranging from rough (hewn stone, brushed wood, rough render finishes) to glossy (metal, polished stone, glazed ceramics). Natural materials are complemented by neutral colour shades of furniture, home textiles and wall colours.

If you would like to introduce one of the trends of warm minimalism into your home, replace the traditional white colour with one of its non-pigmented sisters. By choosing off-white shades of wall paint, you will bring additional softness and depth to the room, emphasize architectural elements, or balance the style of the equipment. When choosing an undertone, let yourself be guided primarily by your taste, and if you are in doubt, ask an expert at JUB’s JUMIX tinting stations.
