How to repaint an old bike?

Do you have a bike, but its condition and appearance make you want a new one? But what if you save money and instead of buying a new bike, you just renovate the existing one? In that way “by recycling” you are also doing something good for our planet. In continuation, check out which paint for metal is the best one to choose when restoring and what the procedure is.

You need:

  • 1 pot of JUBIN Metal primer – primer
  • 1 pot of JUBIN Metal– water-based paint for metal – in the desired colour shade
  • Brush with artificial fibres, suitable width between 4 and 6 cm – depending on the bike
  • Safety gloves
  • Wire brush or sandpaper
  • Rust remover Dr. House  (if you want)

Procedure:

  1. After finishing the work, close the unused paint tightly and store it for later use, and wash the tools with water.
  2. After about 12 hours of drying, two applications of anti-corrosion paint JUBIN Metal in the desired shade follow. The paint on the bike must dry thoroughly between and after both applications.
  3. If the old paint coatings have been completely removed, apply the product JUBIN Metal primer in two coats. Before applying the second coat, the first one must dry thoroughly.
    * If you want to restore or repaint the chromed parts as well, gently sand them with 220 grit sandpaper or more and continue according to procedure, steps 4 and 5.
  4. If the existing paint adheres well, gently sand all substrates with 220 grit sandpaper or more to make the substrate matte. This improves adhesion during further coating.
  5. In the case of poorly adhered existing paint that is peeling, it must be removed as much as possible – preferably completely – with a wire brush or sandpaper (we recommend 150 to 180 grit).
  6. The first step is to remove the rust with a wire brush or sandpaper with granulation of 80 to 120. The rust remover Dr. House can be helpful when doing this.
