System description
The SPATOLATO technique helps us create the appearance of depth of natural stone and broken segments in the stone. In nature, marble is a semi-transparent stone whose colour shade is given by different mineral admixtures. We can get very close to the desired shade with a wide range of colour shades and to the natural marble structure with the selected Spatolato technique.

Technique instructions

1. Pre-painting: the surface should be dry, solid and without any oil stains and similar impurities.
2. Smoothing the surface: smooth the surfaces with JUBOLIN P 50 extra fine 0-3 in the total thickness of 3 mm.
3. Sanding the surface: sand the dried coat and clean the dust.
4. Impregnation: apply ACRYL Emulsion, diluted with water in a ratio of 1:1, onto the dried coat of JUBOLIN P 50 extra fine 0-3.
5. Manufacture of the structure
a. Apply DECOR Marmorin with a stainless trowel (first application) in coat thickness of ~0.1-0.2 mm. Place DECOR Marmorin in the size of a nut on the trowel and apply it on the surface in a thin coat with mixed strokes. Collect excess material simultaneously so that there remains only the desired thickness of application on the wall. In the case of the Spatolato structure, the direction of work is important. If the pattern is applied from top to bottom, the appearance is sharper. When applying DECOR Marmorin from the bottom up, the lines in the final appearance seem softer.
b. The application of DECOR Marmorin (coats 2 and 3) is the same as the first application. Each application must be completely dry before the following one is applied. When the last, i.e. the third, coat of Marmorin is applied, wait until the surface is dried through. If necessary, sand the surface gently between applications with sandpaper of granulation 300 or more.
c. When the surface is dried through, smooth it with a metal smoothing trowel. At first, smooth it gently and then more and more intensively and with greater force on the surface. The strokes of the smoothing trowel should be made in all directions. Glossiness of the surface goes from semi-gloss to high gloss and the feeling of great depth. By smoothing, we achieve greater contrast, as the shade of DECOR Marmorin is darker, shimmering and abundant in the areas of smoothing, while it is partially matt and lighter in indentations.
d. In order to achieve water repellency and greater gloss, coat DECOR Marmorin with DECOR Marmorin shine, which is polished with a cloth until it shines. Thus the surface becomes less sensitive to touch, dust, grease, water and similar.
